Kolkata: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee put out an unofficial “report card” of her ministers during a closed-door administrative review meeting at Town Hall on Friday. Ms Banerjee criticised several departments, but also appreciated the work of other sectors. The meeting was attended by all ministers, secretaries and top administrative officials of the government.

Rajib Banerjee (irrigation), Suvendu Adhikari (transport), Subrata Mukherjee (panchayat), Soumen Mahapatra (water resources), Shantiram Mahato (Paschimanchal Unnayan), Aroop Biswas (sports and youth affairs) and Firhad Hakim (urban development) featured in the top 10 evaluation list of Ms Banerjee.

The chief minister reprimanded technical education minister Asima Patra for not properly implementing the work for ITIs. Shashi Panja, minister for women and child development, was also pulled up for work related to ICDS. “You have to look into this. What are you doing Shashi?” Ms Banerjee said. The department’s secretary, Roshni Sen, was asked about why ICDS schemes were running in open space at some places.

The chief minister was not satisfied with the progress of Kolkata Eye project, which is being taken care of by Kolkata Municipal Corporation. The project was executed by municipal affairs department, which is headed by Firhad Hakim. The project was later handed over to KMC mayor Sovan Chatterjee for speedy implementation.

Ms Banerjee also expressed her concern over recent deaths after some people consumed spurious liquor in Burdwan. The cM directed excise minister Amit Mitra and his secretary to mobilise the excise officers and address the issue with priority.

Consumer affairs minister Sadhan Pande also came under fire for spending lavishly on advertisements. “She has sought a detailed report from the department’s secretary about the funds for advertisements,” an official said.

Soumitra Mohan, district magistrate of Burdwan, earned CM’s wrath for applying for a central award. Ms Banerjee also took up the matter of low voltage being supplied to some places with power minister Sobhondeb Chatterjee.

Sources said that Ms Banerjee urged all her ministers to cut down on spending in the wake of demonetisation. “We are introducing a mobile phone number in my office (CMO) in which the SDO or the SDPO can directly contact in case of an emergency. The direct communication will help in speeding up work,” Ms Banerjee said.
