Kolkata: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned three Trinamul Congress leaders, including Kolkata mayor and minister Sovan Chatterjee next week for questioning in the Narada sting operation case. 

Apart from Mr Chatterjee, the other two who have been asked to appear at the ED office in CGO Complex in Salt Lake are Trinamul MP of Uluberia in Howrah Sultan Ahmed and his brother Iqbal Ahmed, who is Trinamul MLA and Kolkata deputy mayor.

While Sultan and Iqbal have already faced questioning by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) after being served summons, it is the first time Mr Chatterjee got the summons by a central agency in the Narada probe. The union finance ministry’s agency has already booked the three ruling party leaders among a list of 12 in its case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. 

Mr Chatterjee has been asked to appear at the ED office on July 10, according to sources.

The Trinamul MP has been called on July 12 while his brother has been asked to appear the next day, sources revealed. Iqbal has been admitted at a private hospital in south Kolkata as he fell sick after facing the first round of grilling by the CBI. 

A dozen Trinamul Congress leaders were seen accepting cash in return of favours in a sting video captured by Narada CEO Mathew Samuel. 

The ED recently questioned IPS officer S.M.H Meerza, booked in its case, and his brother Tazdar Meerza and recorded their statements.
