Irate mob sets ablaze nursinghome

Berhampore: An irate mob ransacked a private nursinghome and set it ablaze in protest against the death of a mother and her newborn baby on Monday evening.

Police sources said that a pregnant mother named Zulekha Bibi, from Narkel Bari village in the Shaktipur police station area, was admitted for delivery at a private nursing home named HMM Nursing home and diagnostic centre. Later, the nursing home delivered  one baby after a caesarean operation.

After the birth of the baby, the nursing home wrapped the baby and stitched and referred to the Murshidabad medical college and hospital. On the way, the mother and the baby died. This news spread like wild fire and the irate mob, from the side of the victim’s mother, ransacked the nursing home and set on fire a motorbike.

Later, a large number of police from Rejinagar police station rushed to the troubled nursing home and lathi-charged and dispersed the mob.

The victim’s relatives alleged that despite repeated requests, the nursing home authorities hastily peformed the operation and their daughter died from their negligence. The nursinghome owner Alim Mullah was tight-lipped over the issue and the police have detained him for interrogation.
