Kolkata: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has summoned retired IPS officer Bharati Ghosh for questioning after the recovery of Rs 60 lakhs in cash and two kgs of gold during a marathon raid at multiple locations last week.

On Monday morning, she was served the notice at her residence in the city, according to sources adding that she has been asked to appear at the earliest at the state detective agency’s headquarters at Bhawani Bhavan.

Sources claimed that the CID wants to examine Ms Ghosh and record her statement about the wealth seized from different addresses in connection with a case underway at Ghatal Court in West Midnapore.

It is not clear whether Ms Ghosh who is out of the state now will appear before the CID where she was once posted as special superintendent of police.

Meanwhile the caretaker of the flat at Madurdaha in Mukundapur of Ms Ghosh was arrested by the CID on the charges of stealing money and jewellery. During the day Ram Mangal Singh, the accused, was produced at the Ghatal Court which has remanded him in the police custody for seven days.

A CID team raided the flat on Sunday in connection with the complaint filed at Belda police station in West Midnapore. Singh was arrested during the raid for allegedly stealing money and jewllery. Ms Ghosh, however, claimed in her close quarters that Singh was kidnapped by the state detective agency according to sources.

She alleged that Singh’s daughter tried to contact her father repeatedly from Bihar but she failed, sources added.

Ms Ghosh who was the superintendent of police (West Midnapore) resigned in protest after she was transferred by the Mamata Banerjee government recently to the post of commanding officer in a batallion of the state armed police at Barrackpore in North 24 Parganas.
