Kolkata: State BJP president Dilip Ghosh slammed chief minister Mamata Banerjee for her unprecedented attack on governor Keshari Nath Tripathi on Tuesday. He also defended the governor for seeking to know from her about the present situation.

“Our delegation handed over the governor some proof including photos on the violence at Baduria in North 24 Parganas. He was requested to talk to the Centre for intervention so that Central paramilitary forces can be deployed to tackle the violence,” Mr Ghosh said. “Can’t the governor, being the constitutional head of the state, want to know from the chief minister about a particular situation in an area? Certainly he can. Why would a chief minister feel insulted in it? There is nothing to feel humiliated at all,” he added.

The BJP MLA from Kharagpur complained that Ms Banerjee’s government failed to tackle any situation be it in the hills or in the plains. “Her administration could not stop violence,” he alleged while blaming the chief minister for the violence in Darjeeling.

Mr Ghosh argued, “Ms Banerjee said she was elected by the people. Does it mean she will do whatever she wishes? She cannot...”

State Congress president Adhir Chowdhury also expressed his shock over the chief minister’s comments. He said, “The governor’s post is always of highest respect in the state.”
