Fisheries dept mulls options for motorcycle delivery.

Raw fish, cut fish and frozen fish will be collected by the delivering franchise from SFDC’s office at Nalban Food Park and will be sold in the localities.

Kolkata: The State Fisheries Development Corporation (SFDC) will soon deliver fish at your doorstep at a cheaper price. The SFDC is tying up with some franchises, who will be delivering fish in motorcycles, particularly in Salt Lake, New Town, and adjacent areas.

“They will be purchasing fish from us directly at a cheaper rate and will be selling it directly in motorcycles at households. The price for selling the fish will be fixed by us and they will be selling it at a profit margin of 10 percent or a little higher depending upon the size and quality of the fish,” SFDC managing director Soumyajit Das said.

Raw fish, cut fish and frozen fish will be collected by the delivering franchise from SFDC’s office at Nalban Food Park and will be sold in the localities.

“Our target is to give fish-loving Bengalis the taste of a wide variety of fish like telapiya, rohu, katla, bata, pabda, tangra, koi, chingri etc at a price that will be at least 20 per cent lower than the market price. It will also contribute towards the generation of employment. Individuals interested to join the delivery process may also contact the SFDC,” a top SFDC official added. “The franchise will have to keep a security deposit that will be decided depending on the size of the fish. They should have motorbikes with proper driving licenses and other necessary papers ,” the official said. According to him, people, particularly in New Town area, hardly go to the market for buying fish and procure them online or from various departmental stores. “Our primary aim is to target these consumers,” he said. Packaged fish items from SFDC will also be included in the service.
