Kolkata: The arrested son-in-law, Anupam Bhattacharya, of the aged woman, Shipra Bhattacharya, found murdered in Parnashree, has confessed his role in killing her on August 26. The 68-year-old victim's daughter, Kaveri, who was also arrested by the police with Anupam, was however neither present during the murder nor she was aware of it.

If her role is not found, the police is open for her bail. On Friday deputy commissioner of police Meeraj Khalid said, “Anupam had smothered his mother-in-law to death. Prior to that he complelled her to write a suicide note. After killing her, he tried to cover up the crime by giving it the colour of suicide. He escaped through the other door.”

He added, “In the morning when the victim was discovered as dead, taking the benefit of mayhem, he shut the other door from inside so that people would think that both the doors were closed from inside. When we interrogated the persons who were present at the place of occurrence at the time of breaking the door, all of them said that they did not notice the other door.”

The police had learntthat Kaveri also did not notice the second door. However, Anupam admitted that the door was closed from inside. Anupam also told the police that he himself checked it and found it closed. Mr Khalid said, “This prompted us to focus on him.”

The relationship  between Shipra and Kaveri was not smooth from the very begining. Kaveri was a patient of hysteric convulsions. Shipra worked at an NGO. She left her daughter in Santiniketan.  Mr Khalid added, “After some years of Kaveri's marriage, Anupam lived with her family. Kaveri wanted to live in a separate house. But Anupam could not afford it and that is why he decided to eliminate her mother.”
