Nashik: Taking up the farmers’ issue, the Congress has decided to stage a Jan Akrosh Yatra across Maharashtra. The first stage will begin from Ahmednagar on 
Tuesday, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly  Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil said. Senior Congress leaders including Gulam Nabi Azad will attend the march.

Mr Vikhe-Patil said the state government has lost its credibility by “cheating” farmers over loan waivers. “The government is not serious about any issue and has committed historical blunders,” he told The Asian Age on Sunday.

“The government announced that it would give a historic loan waiver to the farmers, but this has transformed into a historic cheating of farmers as not a single paise has reached the farmers’ accounts. 

The CM should seek forgiveness of farmers on this issue. This also shows that the farmer is not on the agenda of the government,” he alleged. 

The yatras will be held on division basis in the state. The yatras will be staged in Konkan division, Usmanabad of Marathwada division, Chandrapur of Nagpur and Amravati on November 4, 5, 6 and 7 respectively. 

On  November 8, the party will observe an all-India ‘black day’ against demonetisation.

“Earlier the government announced that 89 lakh farmers were eligible for the loan waiver then later brought down the number to 66 lakh. The central and state governments have failed on all fronts since the last three years,” he said.
