Nashik: Independent MLA Bacchu Kadu was arrested by the police for allegedly threatening Nashik Municipal commissioner Abhishek Krishna during a meeting in Nashik Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan on Monday. Mr Krishna said that such incidents would not be tolerated.

MLA Kadu and his supporters had gheraoed the NMC commissioner, claiming that the act on compensation to handicapped persons was not being implemented.

During the meeting, Mr Kadu apparently got agitated and moved menacingly towards the commissioner. However, the police and officials blocked him. The Prahar Sanghatna is leading an agitation, demanding implementation of the 1995 Act. The agitation began with a Prahar Sanghatana morcha outside the NMC office. The protesters began shouting slogans in front of the NMC office in the afternoon.

Later, Kadu along with a delegation went to meet the NMC commissioner and other officials. During the meeting, Kadu demanded immediate implementation of the law and compensation to handicapped persons. He said that he had written several times to the commissioner and also sent reminders but received no replies.

Sarkarwada police station sources said that case has been registered against Kadu under sections 153 of the Indian Penal code and he was arrested.
