Nagpur: Opposition leader in the Assembly Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil slammed chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also holds home portfolio over “the functioning of the police department and its incompetence”.

Mr Vikhe-Patil said, if the CM is not able to handle the home portfolio, he should induct former revenue minister Eknath Khadse and former chief minister Narayan Rane into the Cabinet and allocate the portfolio to them. Mr Vikhe Patil was initiating the debate over last weeks’ resolution on the law and order situation in the state. He also criticised education and cultural affairs minister Vinod Tawde over his decision to close schools which have a few students. He also accused the minister of shielding Mumbai University vice-chancellor Sanjay Deshmukh.

Launching a tirade against Mr Fadnavis, Mr Vikhe-Patil said that the CM was shielding his alleged closed aide Munna Yadav who is wanted in an attempt-to-murder case. Mr Vikhe-Patil said even after two months, the Nagpur police has failed to trace Yadav.

Mr Vikhe-Patil claimed that Yadav was hiding in a farm house belonging to Vicky Kukreja, about 22km from the Assembly. He demanded that if the police are unable to trace Yadav, then he should be declared as an absconder and a reward of Rs 50,000 should be announced for anyone who gives information about his location. He even expressed his readiness to part with a cheque of Rs 50,000.
