Tempo driver held in Pune for carrying 1,000 kg beef

A team of police officials patrolled the area and intercepted the car.

Pune: The Pune police has arrested a person for transporting 1,000kg of beef on Tuesday morning. The beef was being transported from Phalatan in Satara to a market in Pune.

Krantikumar Patil, assistant police inspector, Saswad Police Station, said, “We received a tip off that beef was being transported in a tempo from Katraj Chow near Saswad police station. Accordingly, a team of police officials patrolled the area and intercepted the car. The driver of the tempo Riyaz Qureshi told us that Bilal Qureshi from Phalatan had killed ten cows and bulls. Bilal asked Riyaz to transport the beef to Niyaj Qureshi in Qureshi beef market in Pune. We inspected the tempo and found out the beef. Veterinary doctor Anil Ingawale tested meat and confirmed that it was beef.”

He added, “We immediately called a veterinary doctor to check if it was beef or not.  He confirmed that it was beef. We have arrested Riyaz Qureshi under section 5(A) and 9 of Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act.”
