Nagpur: High drama was witnessed in the District and Session Court area on Friday when a junior lawyer assaulted his senior with a sharp axe and immediately consumed poison to which he later succumbed. The senior lawyer was rushed to the state-run Mayo Hospital in a serious condition.

The incident occurred around 4.40 pm when the accused Lokesh Bhaskar, a native of Bhandara, attacked advocate Sadanand Narnaware (62). Narnaware fell to the ground. As many policemen, lawyers and litigants were present, Bhaskar was caught but he had consumed a poisonous substance and was also sent for treatment. The Police Information Centre confirmed his death.

The police said Narnaware is a former lecturer in the Post-Graduate Department of Law (Constitution) stream of the RTM Nagpur University. Mayo Hospital doctors were attending Narnaware. DCP, crime, Sambhaji Kadam, zonal DCP Chinmay Pandit and other senior officers were at the spot.

The motive behind the attack and  Bhaskar’s extreme step could not be known immediately but police sources said there could have been some illicit relationship between the accused and victim.
