Pune: The administration and police authorities have planned for manifold facilities and security for the Bhima-Koregaon Shourya Din celebration on January 1, to avoid any inconvenience to Dalits. The authorities plan to increase security in order to avoid any incidents similar to previous communal clashes.
Lakhs of Dalits had gathered at Bhima-Koregaon to commemorate 200 years old battle in which British Army comprising Dalit Mahars defeated Peshwa on January 1. A communal clash broke out in which one person was killed, vehicles were burnt and many were injured.
Girish Bapat, guardian minister of Pune; Sandip Patil, superintendent of Pune rural; Ram Kishor Naval, collector of Pune and head of all concerned department for organising event at Bhima-Koregaon were present at the official review meeting held at collector office on Thursday.
Mr Kishor said, âWe had been holding frequent meetings with villagers of Bhima-Korega-on, Vadhu Budruk and Sanasvadi in order to understand the issues. Around seven lakh people are expected to visit the place and we have made arrangement.â
According to officals, the preparation increas-ed other facilities such as parking facilities, bus services, medical facilities, toilets, water tankers, fire brigade, CCTV monitoring, volunteers and police deployment.
