Three arrested for display of arms on social media

New Delhi: The Delhi police has arrested three accused who used to flaunt their firearms on social media. The police have recovered two improvised, five country-made pistols and six live cartridges from their possession.

The accused were ide-ntified as Ashu Mallik (28), resident of Sone-pat, Ashwani Khatri, alias Chini (35), a bad character of Narela and his younger brother Jitender Khatri (24).

They were arrested while plotting a crime in the area of Narela, moving in their car.

According to the police, in order to check criminal activities of Ashwani, surveillance was being kept over him. He was released from jail recently. His social media profiles were also under scanner. Police came to know that the accused were involved in criminal activities as they used to upload their pictures with firearms.

On Monday, a tip-off was received that Ashu will be coming near Narela in his car. His vehicle was intercepted. The three occupants of the car tried to escape leaving behind the vehicle. However, the police overpowered all of them.

“From Ashu’s possession, one improvised pistol and four live rounds were seized,” the police said.

During the search of Ashwani and Jitender, one countrymade pistol and a live cartridge were recovered. Search of the vehicle was also conducted in which four more countrymade pistols were recovered,” said Rajneesh Gupta, DCP, Rohini District.

Subsequently, a supplier of the firearms has been arrested and one more countrymade pistol recovered from him. Efforts are on to identify the further sources, said the DCP.
