New Delhi: Seven persons, including a former and current employee of businessman Naseeb Chand Aggarwal, have been arrested for allegedly being involved in looting cash and jewellery from his house and showroom in Southeast Delhi’s Kalkaji on June 13.

The accused have been identified as Rupesh Kumar Singh, Sonu Gupta, Mohd Imtiyaz Khan, Ramjan Ali, Sudhir and Aaksh.

While Mr Aggarwal had gone to a gym at a nearby hotel, four men wearing gloves with their faces covered, armed with knives and pistols forcibly entered his home. They tied up his wife and servant and held them at gunpoint. When Mr Aggarwal returned, he was assaulted and threatened to be killed if he didn’t hand over the keys to the safe from which the gang stole cash worth Rs 10 lakh, two mobile phones, along with gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 1 crore. The members then proceeded to ransack his shop situated in the same building.

The police zeroed in on former employees of the victim after learning of Rupesh, the mastermind behind the dacoity, who was formerly employed by the complainant. Another accused, Sonu, was working with Mr Aggarwal till last year. Sudhir was currently employed and was passing on information to his gang members, deputy commissioner of police (Southeast) Romil Baaniya said.

After committing the dacoity, the gang fled to Patna and Bihar where they were given shelter by Shamsher Singh, alias Chotu, for which he received a large sum of the looted jewellery. He also facilitated their escape to Nepal.

Following raids in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and along the Nepal border, Singh and the other gang members were arrested, the police officer said, adding one of the accused is still at large.
