New Delhi: Unhappy with the regular goof ups in the campaigns of BJP candidate (East Delhi) Gautam Gambhir, the central leadership asked party’s national vice president Shyam Jaju to supervise and manage the poll affairs of the cricketer turned politician.

Mr Gambhir is in news for all the wrong reasons such as holding public meeting without permission or delay in his roadshow in addition to the controversy, which erupted over possession of two voter identity cards.

A party insider told this newspaper that all these goof ups and mismanagement have made the central leadership angry. In a strong message, the top leadership of the party asked Delhi in-charge and national vice president Mr Jaju to take control of Mr Gambhir’s poll management.

Now, the Delhi BJP vice president and Lok Sabha in-charge of East Delhi, Rajiv Babbar, will report to Mr Jaju.

“It is learnt that nothing will be done without Mr Jaju’s approval and his decision related to Mr Gambhir’s poll management will be final and binding for all without any question,” said a senior party functionary.

Apart from managing Mr Gambhir’s poll, Mr Jaju’s other key responsibility will be to end infighting and factionalism in the East Delhi parliamentary constituency.

On Sunday, a coordination meeting for BJP’s East Delhi seat turned violent when two key office bearers exchanged blows with each other in Mr Babbar’s presence.

Mr Gambhir is in a triangular contest with Congress’ Arvinder Singh Lovely and AAP’s Atishi for the East Delhi Lok Sabha seat.
