New Delhi: Ex-MLA Rambeer Shokeen, who was arrested in November 2016, has allegedly escaped from under UP police custody at the time he was taken for a routine medical checkup to Safdarjung Hospital.

Rambeer Shokeen, ex-MLA from Delhi, who had been arrested by Special Cell under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in November 2016, has reportedly fled from New Delhi’s Safdarjung hospital.

The escapee had been brought to the hospital under the supervision of Baghpat Police for his routine medical checkup when he made the run.  While the matter of his interim bail was listed to be heard in the court on Thursday, he made the escape just a day before.

He had allegedly appealed for the bail on the grounds of his wife’s illness. Shokeen happens to be the maternal uncle of Neeraj Bawana, one of the most dreadful gangsters of Delhi.

Shokeen joined the Indian National Congress after he was elected to the Delhi Assembly in 2013 as an independent MLA  from Mundka constituency in northwest Delhi.

He was arrested by a special cell of the Delhi Police on November 28, 2016, for his alleged involvement in a criminal association headed by Bawana, his nephew who is also serving his term, in the jail since 2015.
