New Delhi: The Delhi Medical Association (DMA) has called for a “medical bandh” on June 6 to protest against the various laws and rules allegedly enforced and imposed upon the medical fraternity.

As part of the bandh, the DMA has urged its members and owners of hospitals, nursing homes and health facilities in the city to keep their establishments closed till 2 pm. However, emergency services will remain open.

According to a statement, the decision was taken in the DMA’s state executive committee held on Friday. The body demands a stringent Central Act to stop the violence against doctors, the statement added. Some other demands include implementation of “inter-ministerial committee report”, IMA/DMA representative in every government health committee and capping on compensation for medical negligence among others.

The DMA members added that if their concerns were not looked into, they would call for a nationwide medical indefinite strike.

“To show the unity and strength of the medial fraternity, all the members will be reaching Rajghat on June 6 at 8 am to protest against the various draconian laws and rules. It is “do or die” and “now and never” situation for medial fraternity,” Dr Puneet Dhawan, DMA finance secretary said.
