New Delhi: Acknowledging that the business education in India is at a cusp of change, vice president Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday highlighted the need for public-private partnership (PPP) to promote quality education through innovation.

At an event organised by Education Promotion Society for India (EPSI’s) B-Schools Leadership Conclave in New Delhi, Mr Naidu emphasised that “We cannot depend on conventional teaching, we have to shift to innovative teaching pedagogies like case studies, simulations, open online courses, use technology and disruptive technologies in classrooms.”

Despite all innovative practices, almost 20 per cent of the Indian population is still illiterate, rued the vice president and called for an urgent action in addressing illiteracy, especially in rural India, so that the stepping stone to higher education is laid.

The first plenary session talked about new jobs, new skills and new curriculum to prepare today’s students for tomorrow’s future. India is likely to play a significant role in Asia’s development as it is projected to become the second largest economy in the world by 2030. The other plenary sessions discussed rethinking the learning experience and leveraging technology in business education.

Mr Naidu also underlined the importance of “Reform, perform and transform” in  education. During the past years, India has extensively worked on facilitating the ease of doing business in the country. Indians should change their mindset towards business as the nation is poised to become the third largest economy.
