New Delhi: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ajay Maken said on Sunday that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), instead of celebrating its foundation day as “five years of revolution”, should observe the day as “deception day”.

Mr Maken said that chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, who had resigned from the government in February 2014 with the excuse that the BJP and Congress were not allowing him to table the Jan Lokpal Bill in the Assembly, despite getting an absolute majority in the Assembly elections, preferred to table a vastly diluted Jan Lokpal Bill in 2015 from the one which had been tabled in 2014.

He said in the revised Bill, all the powers in constituting the Jan Lokpal were vested in the hands of Mr Kejriwal himself and his MLAs. Mr Maken wondered what forced Mr Kejriwal not to table the same Jan Lokpal Bill which was tabled in the Assembly for approval in 2014.

The Congress leader said Mr Kejriwal was afraid that if he passed the 2014 Jan Lokpal Bill in toto, then he himself, his ministers and MLAs would be behind the bars on the charges of corruption and other malpractices.

He said though four of the ministers in the Kejriwal Cabinet had been stripped of ministership on account of corruption, they have not been removed from the AAP despite the fact that the party was born out of the India Against Corruption movement.

Addressing a press conference, the Delhi Congress chief said the Aam Aadmi Party government has not only “failed” to fulfil any of the promises made to the people, but the party, established as the people’s party, has broken all the norms on the basis of which it was formed. Others present at the press conference were chief spokesperson and in-charge (communication) Sharmistha Mukhe-rjee and senior leader Chattar Singh.
