New Delhi: BJP national vice-president Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, who was appointed by party president Amit Shah, has played a crucial role in the historic victory of the party in the civic polls by going door-to-door to reach out to individual voters in the national capital.

The new team of Delhi BJP office bearers was announced in mid-January, almost one and half months after appointment of Mr Manoj Tiwari as state unit chief. Questions were raised about the experience team of office bearers, as none of-them have experience to lead the organisation in any elections. The exceptions were two general secretaries, Ravinder Gupta and Rajesh Bhaita, who were municipal councillors then, and had won any elections.

As election approached, their inexperience was exposed in several decisions. Knowing the importance of election, BJP president assigned supervisory role to Mr Sahasrabuddhe and Union minister Jitendra Singh, Nirmala Sitaraman and Sanjeev Balyan. Sources said that since Day one after his appointment, Mr Sahasrabuddhe took over the responsibility and worked hard with the state unit. “He gave directional less  management a direction with the objective of BJP victory in three municipal corporations,” he added.

According to party insiders, Mr Sahasrabuddhe reached out to all factions and the old guard, who were sidelined by the state leadership. “He met several leaders in the party’s state office or went to residence of BJP veterans. He joined all the missing dots in Delhi BJP and also worked as bridge between Mr Shah and state leadership,” he said.

Mr Sahasrabuddhe even personally called the old guard of party for a meeting and personally appealed them to join the poll management.
