New Delhi: Media persons and several journalist unions in New Delhi staged a march on Monday from the Press Club of India towards Parliament House, raising slogans and placards against the assault on journalists covering Jawaharlal Nehru University students' march on March 23. 

The police on Raisina Road stopped the scribes. They submitted a memorandum of their demands — to take action against the police personnel involved in manhandling journalists — to the police.

On Monday, after the continuous pressure mounted on the police, the errant SHO of Delhi Cantt was sent to district lines. The SHO allegedly molested a female scribe. The move came after the journalists’ body submitted a memorandum to home minister Rajnath Singh.  

A reporter alleged molestation by a cop, while another female photojournalist was roughed up by policewomen and her camera snatched. Two policemen have been placed under suspension following a vigilance enquiry over their conduct. 

On Saturday, scores of journalists had marked a Black Day and held a protest in front of police headquarters when police women along with their male counterparts allegedly manhandled and molested two female scribes.

Delhi police PRO Madhur Verma said, “Based on the vigilance enquiry findings, a case under Section 354 A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was lodged at Sarojini Nagar police station on a complaint of alleged molestation filed by the female journalist. The case has been shifted to Crime Branch for further probe.” 

He added, “The camera has since been traced and the police are contacting the photojournalist to restore the same.”
