New Delhi: The Delhi University is likely to conduct entrance test for its B.Com courses from the next year’s academic session.

For most of its undergraduate courses, including the much sought after B.Com courses, the university comes out with a cut-off list based on Class 12 marks of applicants. DU holds entrance test only for its postgraduate (PG) and professional courses. Dr Manoj Khanna, convenor of admission committee of DU, said the university also has plans of holding entrance tests for other undergraduate courses in future. According to him, the university is holding consultation with all the stakeholders to explore the possibility of conducting entrance tests for the under-grad programme in commerce, which offered by a majority of its affiliated colleges. “We are exploring all the possibilities. We are taking all the stakeholders, including college principals, in confidence and consulting them. If we are successful in organising this competition for commerce stream, one-third of the student population will be catered to,” Dr Khanna said. According to him, the university is also looking for a tie-up with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), which conducts several all-India level exams. The university is also trying to strengthen infrastructure for conducting online admissions, with emphasis on evolving a “student-friendly” admission system, he said. DU has abandoned its offline registration process. The only way students could apply to various DU colleges this year was through the online admission portal.
