Another Amity student kills self

Noida: Another Amity student allegedly committed suicide on Thursday. The 19-year old was found dead under mysterious circumstances outside a hostel located inside the college campus in Sector 125. The deceased has been identified as Udit Shankar, a student of B-Tech, first year. He was rushed to Kailash Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

The police said Shankar, a native of Bhojpur in Bihar, was living in the Hostel No 3 in the University. “We received a call from university officials in the afternoon that a student was found lying outside the hostel. He had some injury marks on his head and body. He was rushed to Kailash Hospital Sector 27 where doctors declared him brought dead,” said a police official.

Police said that it is suspected that the student jumped off the 4th floor of the hostel and died. “The deceased had suffered head injury and also blood loss. We have informed the family members of the deceased about the incident,” said Vinod Yadav, a sub-inspector. The police said they have not found any suicide note from the spot. “We will question roommates and other hostellers to get any clue about reason of taking extreme step. We have also searched the room but no suicide note has been found,” added Yadav.

Savita Mehta, vice-president (communications) at Amity Group, said that the university officials informed police about the incident. “We do not know the reason of death of the student. We are extending all help to the deceased’s family and police for investigating the matter,” she said.

On November 5, a 21-year-old student from Telangana committed suicide by hanging himself with a ceiling fan in Amity University’s hostel.
