Love jihad: City BJP leader, 100 others booked

Ghazaabad: The Ghaziabad police has booked more than hundreds of BJP workers and other right-wing groups for allegedly disrupting the marriage of a Hindu woman with a Muslim man in the Rajnagar on Saturday.

The bride’s father Pushpendra Kumar said, “I was receiving phone calls for the last two days to stop the marriage. He claimed a large group of BJP workers, led by the party city unit chief Ajay Sharma, and some people belonging to right-wing groups protested outside his residence  when he organised a wedding reception for the couple on Friday.

The police has said that they used mild force to disperse the protesters. Mr Sharma claimed it was a case of ‘love jihad’. He said that the man and the woman were old friends and worked in a multinational company. Senior superintendent of police H.N. Singh said that two FIRs have been registered against 113 people in connection with the incident under relevant provisions of the law.  The marriage was later solemnised in a court.

The Kavi Nagar police station filed a case on Friday under Sections 147, 148, 336, 341, 427, 353 of the IPC and Section 7 of the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act.

The FIR named BJP city president Ajay Sharma, businessman Dinesh Goel, Shiv Sena’s Western UP head Mahesh Ahuja, Hindu Raksha Dal leader Pradeep Chaudhary, Jai Shiv Sena leader Amit Aryan among 100 others.
