Dhoom 2 inspired goons steal shawls, held

New Delhi: Inspired by Bollywood flick Dhoom 2, two persons landed in the police custody after they tried to execute the reel drama in real life. The duo was arrested by Delhi police for stealing 16 antique Pashmina shawls worth Rs 2 crore and having historical importance of national essence.

The arrested are Vinay Parmar, the master mind, and Tarun Harvodia. They kept visiting the national craft museum for the last few months posing as researchers. They were apprehended from Kolkata. Parmar is fluent in German, French, English and Guajarati.

The police said that on October 31 a PCR call was received at Tilak Marg police station regarding the theft committed at the National Handicrafts and Handlooms Museum, Pragati Maidan. Complainant D. Rama Krishna Rao, who is the admin and security officer, handed over a written complaint stating that when Shahjahan Ansari, the custodian of the gallery, opened the museum, it was revealed that 16 shawls (Pashmina) were missing from the display boards.

On the basis of the complaint, the above said case was registered and an investigation was taken up.

As the case was of national significance, a special team was constituted. The investigation was totally based on technical analysis. A strategic plan was prepared to nab the thieves. It was revealed that the mobile phone of one of the suspected persons, Vinay Parmar, was active on the same day in the surrounding area. Based on information, a police team went to Kolkata to apprehend the suspected persons. A raid was conducted on November 13 and accused Vinay was apprehended from a hotel there. All the shawls were recovered by the police.
