New Delhi: A Delhi BJP delegation led by Manoj Tiwari met lieutenant-governor Anil Baijal on Friday and complained against a letter being circulated in government-run schools, allegedly by the ruling AAP asking parents about their political choices ahead of the Assembly elections.

Former Delhi education minister Prof. Kiran Walia, meanwhile, has asked the AAP government to immediately withdraw the circular dated June 13, which ordered the government school management committees to call the parents of students to propagate the achievements of the AAP government and vote for the party in the forthcoming Delhi Assembly elections.

The BJP delegation demanded cancellation of the three-day conference organised in Vigyan Bhawan, dissolution of the school management committee, and an action against the guilty officers. The Delhi government, however, has dubbed the letter as “fake” and is investigating its origin.

“We will not allow the politicisation of education by the Delhi government, which is indulging in politics in the name of education. After the Lok Sabha elections, Arvind Kejriwal has lost his political ground and is adopting wrong methods to regain it. He has lost his mental balance and does not understand how to save his lost grounds,” said Mr Tiwari.

The Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta; MLAs Om Prakash Sharma, Jagdish Pradhan, Kapil Mishra, Devender Sehrawat, and Anil Vajpayee; and party’s state general secretaries Kuljeet Singh Chahal, Ravinder Gupta, and Rajesh Bhatia were part of the delegation.

Neelkant Bakshi and Ashok Goel Devraha, respectively the co-incharge and head of the media department, were also part of BJP’s delegation.

Former Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel alleged that the Kejriwal government is misusing schools and government resources by making poor parents their political tools. “Distribution of handouts to the members of the School Management Committee shows that Mr Kejriwal has not been able to digest his defeat in the Lok Sabha election and hence he has hit a new low,” said Mr Goel.

Prof. Walia, terming the AAP government’s bid to misuse the education system for garnering votes as outrageous, said that it would defeat the very purpose for which the schools exist — which is to give proper and quality education to children instead of promoting the Aam Aadmi Party.
