Delhi: School student beaten to death by his friends

According to the police, the deceased, identified as Vimal Kumar alias Raju, was a resident of HarshVihar.

New Delhi: A 17-year-old student of Class 10 was allegedly beaten to death by his friends Northeast district area’s Harsh Vihar police station limits late on Monday night.

According to the police, the deceased, identified as Vimal Kumar alias Raju, was a resident of HarshVihar. He is survived by his mother Anita, father Lakshman and two brothers. The police said that the incident took place on Monday. Raju was at home when there was a knock at the door.

The complainant, Lakshman, Raju’s father, said as he went to answer the door, he saw three friends calling out for his son Raju. Rohit, one of Raju’s friend, was also present with the two other.

He told the police that all left with his son Raju. After waiting for long, Raju didn’t return home till late at night. Lakshman alleged that Rohit, one of Raju’s friend, brought him home in an unconscious state. At that time, Raju seemed to be in drunken state. When the family inquired about it, Rohit allegedly told the family that Raju is drunk and sleeping. He then took Raju to his room and left.

The death came to light on Tuesday morning around 7.30 pm when Lakhsman went to wake Raju up. After repeated attempts, when Raju didn’t wake up, Lakshman checked on him and found several injury marks on his body. They took him to the hospital where doctors declared him dead.

He informed the police, who then visited the spot and took the statement of deceased father. Based on the statement, when police went to question the three youths had fled from their house. A manhunt has been launched to nab the fleeing assailants and a probe has been ordered in this regard.
