East Delhi bride hurt in celebratory firing

New Delhi: A 19-year-old bride collapsed during her wedding ceremony on Friday after being hit by a bullet from celebratory firing hit her ankle, a police officer said. The incident occurred at 12.45 am when Pooja Sen was standing on stage for the “jai mala” ceremony in Shakarpur community centre in east Delhi.
She was rushed to a hospital after the incident and she returned four hours later to be married in a quiet ceremony, police said.
The perpetrator was identified as Rinku, a resident of Geeta Colony.
“We have identified the guest, who fired the shot, from the bridegroom’s side. The suspect has been identified. He as a florist living with his family in east Delhi’s Shastri Nagar,” said deputy commissioner of police, East, Pankaj Singh.
A manhunt is on to nab Rinku, who knew the victim, he said.

“We have registered a case of voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means under Section 326 of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act. Rinku fled the wedding venue after the crime. Our teams are looking for him,” said a police official.
