Trader uploads vulgar pic of woman on Net, held

New Delhi: A 24-year-old garment trader was arrested after he allegedly started blackmailing a woman by uploading explicit photos of her on social media after the victim rejected his marriage proposal. He also sent a copy of the photographs to the woman’s would be in-laws.

The accused was arrested from Southeast Delhi’s Amar Colony, on Thursday, after the woman lodged a complaint. DCP (Southeast) Chinmoy Biswal said that a case was registered under IPC Sections of rape (376), POCSO Act, and Section 67 and 67B of the IT Act.

Initial probe revealed that the woman was allegedly sexually assaulted by the accused when she was 17 years old. She told cops that the accused gave her some intoxicant and allegedly raped her in 2016. He also captured explicit photographs of the woman when she was unconscious.

Subsequently, he started using those to blackmail her.

The survivor was allegedly raped by the accused till April 2016.

In July 2018, the woman’s family fixed her marriage and she got engaged. However, the accused then started threatening her, asking her to call the marriage off and instead marry him.

When she refused, the accused created a fake Facebook account under her name and uploaded the images there. In addition, he sent the photos to the woman’s in-laws, which caused an upheaval in the household and her marriage was called off. The woman’s family finally contacted the police. The girl showed the text messages from the accused along with the explicit images that he had circulated on the social media.

Cops raided the hideout of the accused and arrested him. In addition to blackmail, he confessed to have sexually assaulted the woman when she was a minor.
