Chargesheet filed against DU students for ‘stalking’

New Delhi: The Delhi police has filed a chargesheet agai-nst four Delhi Univer-sity students for allegedly misbehaving with and stalking union minister Smriti Irani in 2017.

The final report was filed before metropolitan magistrate Snigdha Sarwaria, who took cognisance of the chargesh-eet and put up the matter for October 15. The four youth, identified as Sitanshu, Karan, Avinash and Amit, were booked on charges of stalking, criminal intimidation and intention to insult the modesty of a woman.

The incident is said to have taken place last year when Smriti Irani was on her way back home to Chanakyapuri from Delhi IGI Airport. Almost exactly a year back, the police arrested the four DU students for tailing Smriti Irani’s car, and were later released on bail.

In April 2017, the police had alleged that the drunk students, identified as Sitanshu, Karan, Avinash and Amit, had followed Ms Irani’s car in Lutyens’ Delhi, following which they were detained. The students, in the age group of 18-19 years, were detained at the Chanakyapuri police station. in the diplomatic enclave. The incident had occurred near the US embassy, the police had said.

The four belong to Delhi’s Ram Lal College, and were detained the very night after Ms Irani called the Delhi police control room to lodge a complaint about her car being followed by the four youngsters.
