New Delhi: Dwarka police have arrested a gang dealing in cannabis (ganja) from Om Vihar Phase-1, Uttam Nagar, said the police here on Monday.

A woman and a peddler employed by her were bringing the contraband on a motorcycle when they were spotted by a police team, patrolling near Metro Pillar number 701 on Najafgarh-Uttam Nagar Road.

The large bags carried by the duo on a mobike was what aroused the police’s suspicion. The police followed the motorcycle and apprehended the two riders.

The accused were identified as Pooja (27) and Dilip Kumar Mahto (27), both of  Uttam Nagar.

On searching them, the police recovered 25 kg of fine quality cannabis from the bag carried by Pooja. Later, the police recovered 5 kg of cannabis was recovered from the bag carried by Mahto.

During investigation, both the accused were interrogated. Pooja disclosed that she was in the business of selling cannabis for the past three years. In this regard, she was arrested by the local police last year and was sent to jail for a few months.

After her release on bail she employed Mahto to assist her in bringing cannabis from persons who came from UP, Haryana and Punjab for delivery of ganja to Delhi at different places. She leads a lavish lifestyle and nurtures ambitions of opening dance academy and boutiques.
