Case filed against drunk businessman for attacking SI

New Delhi: A drunk man allegedly thrashed a police sub- inspector of North Avenue police station inside Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital on Saturday night.

The police said that the incident took place late Saturday night in Connaught Place. The accused, identified as Nishid Gupta, a resident of New Kailash Colony, demanded the bar attendant to serve him liquor, the person denied the request as it was too late. Unable to take a no, the businessman lost his cool and allegedly began abusing the hotel staff, following which the bouncers were called in. The bouncers and the staff allegedly got into a brawl with him and turned him away, the police said.

The drama didn’t end here, after inebriated Mr Gupta came out, his driver tried to make him sit in the car and asked him to leave, but the drunk man hurled a severe blow on his driver’s private parts following which he collapsed on the road. The matter was immediately reported to the police and a PCR call was made. A team visited the spot and took both the accused and the driver to RML Hospital, where duty sub-inspector Kuldeep Yadav asked Mr Gupta to cooperate with the police.

The businessman accused Mr Yadav of not taking any action against the hotel staffers and assaulted him.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC against Mr Gupta  at the police station on a complaint by Mr Yadav, but he is yet to be arrested.

The driver, who was injured by Mr Gupta, has not given any complaint against his employer and it has learnt that they have reached a compromise

Mr Gupta called up his family members who reached the five-star hotel. He was then taken to RML for a medical examination where he accused Mr Yadav of not taking any action against the hotel staffers and assaulted him. He broke Mr Yadav’s phone, said a senior police officer.

The police has also asked the five-star hotel, on Sunday, to share CCTV footage of the incident and has sought a list of bouncers and staffers who were present at the spot.
