26-year-old shot dead in gangwar at Bhajanpura

New Delhi: In yet another suspected gangwar, a 26-year-old man was allegedly shot dead by unidentified assailants in northeast Delhi’s Bhajanpura area on Friday night.

The deceased has been identified as Najim, a resident of Subhash Mohalla in Vijay Park. According to a senior police official, a police control room (PCR) call regarding the incident was received on Friday night following which a police team rushed to the spot.

“Najim was taken to the Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) hospital where he was declared brought dead by the doctors. Body has been sent for autopsy. He sustained four bullets, one in head and three in chest and abdomen,” said the police official.

“During initial investigation, it was found that Najim, after having dinner at a restaurant in the area, was returning to his home with his friends when two unidentified assailants shot him. Najim was 20 metres away from his home when the incident occurred,” said the police official privy to investigation.

“The police have registered a case under section 302 (punishment for murder) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Bhajanpura police station. Further, teams are looking for CCTV cameras in the area to identify the assailants and to know the crime sequence,” said the senior police official, adding that further police is investigating the case with all angles.

According to sources, Najim was close to gangster Naseer and he had also got few cases registered against him. “Few days back Najim had a quarrel with someone over a biryani at a restaurant in the area. Najim had filed a police complaint against that person,” said the sources.
