World Yoga Day: Civic body to hold ‘wellness week’

New Delhi: The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is observing a ‘Wellness Week’ on the occasion of “World Yoga Day” on June 21. The week-long programme, beginning from June 17 to 23, is designed to sensitise Delhiites and the floating population who visit the city.

Singer Adnan Sami has also been rope in for the event. NDMC secretary Rashmi Singh said that the main Yoga day event will be held at Rajpath. “The aim of the event is to spread awareness among people towards a responsible civic behaviour and to promote well-being, both physical and emotional. The idea is to develop a sense of ownership among people to care for the city,” Ms Singh added.

Giving details of the week-long event, Ms Singh said that the wellness week would open with a street art project and the NDMC has identified walls on Shahjehan Road where volunteers and swachchhta interns of NDMC will give vent to their creative spirit by creating artworks themed on wellness.

“A military band will also play patriotic songs at the lawns of India Gate and a special campaign “Let’s Be an Asli Hero” would also be run to acknowledge people who contribute towards better civic sense and cleanliness,” said Ms Singh.

On the final day, a wellness conclave will be organised.
