Rape survivor critical after bikers attack her with acid

New Delhi: A 25-year-old rape survivor was targeted with the corrosive liquid and sustained severe burns after she allegedly refused to bow down to the threats to withdraw a rape complaint against the accused. The miscreants on a motorcycle came from behind near Khajuri Khas Chowk in Northeast Delhi and threw a bottle of acid on her.

Preliminary probe reveals that the woman, who works in a factory in Chandni Chowk, was returning home in the evening when the incident took place. Passersby had informed the police, which rushed her to Jagpravesh Chandra Hospital.

According to the police, the rape survivor was already married and was fighting a divorce case in the Karkardooma court.

She had met the rape accused, a resident of Mustafabad, who had raped her on the pretext of marriage. The woman had lodged an FIR against him following which he was sent to jail. She told the police that she was receiving threats to withdraw her plaint, but she didn’t pay any heed to them.

She further told the police, she was also not on the good terms with her in-laws and due to personal reasons she had parted ways with her husband. The survivor, who has sustained burns in her eyes, hand, neck and other parts, is said to be critical.

The police is questioning the in-laws of the survivor and also verifying the CCTV footage of the area where the incident took place.
