New Delhi: Lieutenant-governor Anil Baijal on Wednesday asked Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia to make security measures suggested by the police and other stakeholders mandatory for recognition of schools in the city. 

The L-G also directed the Delhi police to waive verification charges for private schools in order to incentivise the process.

Mr Baijal also asked all departments and stakeholders to work together to ensure a “safe and secure environment” in schools in Delhi. 

In the letter to Mr Sisodia, Mr Baijal stressed that the safety and security of children cannot be compromised and has to be an essential condition to allow running of schools in Delhi.

Meanwhile in bid to ensure “fair probe” in the sexual assault case of a five-year-old, the Delhi government on Wednesday wrote to Mr Baijal seeking transfer of the case from local police to the crime branch.

The move comes after Delhi home and health minister Satyendar Jain received complaints through Gandhi Nagar MLA Anil Bajpai about alleged “inaction” by the authorities concerned. “The minister has written to the L-G demanding transfer of the rape case from local police to the crime branch for fair and transparent investigation,” an official said.
