New Delhi: Two days after facing humiliating defeat in the Delhi Assembly polls, BJP president J.P. Nadda, on Thursday, held a review meeting with party’s city unit president Manoj Tiwari to analyse the poll results.

BJP’s national general secretary (organisation) B.L. Santosh was also present in the meeting. Mr Nadda asked Mr Tiwari to submit a detailed report citing reasons for party’s humiliating defeat by next week.

It learnt that Mr Nadda has directed party’s Delhi unit to prepare itself for a bipolar contest in the national capital in future polls.

According to sources, in the meeting it was felt that though BJP’s vote share, along with that of its allies, increased by eight per cent — which is remarkable — but the contest became bipolar costing the party. It also felt that in future, Congress should be treated as a non entity.

“We believed that Congress heavyweights contesting in about a dozen seats can make the contest triangular, which ultimately benefits us. But except the Gandhi Nagar Assembly seat, none of these Congress heavyweights were able to make their presence felt.

“It was discussed that all the future contests will be bipolar and we must focus on our strength and try to increase our vote share by over 50 per cent,” said a party insider, adding that it was observed that the party fought the February 8 election with its full strength and reached the electorate across the city.

For preparing detailed report to find out reasons of defeat, Mr Tiwari has called seven meetings at the party’s state unit on Friday.
