New Delhi: The Delhi police’s crime branch will initiate a probe in the alleged sexual assault of a three-and-a-half-year-old girl in her school after the family members staged a protest outside the school in Northwest Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar on Tuesday demanding action against the authorities.
Parents of other children belonging to the school and members of some NGOs also joined them. They blocked the road and demanded justice for the child. The case was transferred from the district police to the crime branch on Tuesday.
The school denied any such incident having taken place in its premises. The principal of the school said they have cooperated with the police and have provided all the help needed. Police has checked CCTV footage and did not find anything suspicious, he claimed. The CCTV recording has been handed over to the police, he added.
The parents of the child have alleged that she was sexually assaulted in her school last Tuesday. A case was registered by the district police under relevant sections of the Pocso Act.
A senior officer said the case has been transferred to the crime branch since it is a “sensitive one.”
DCP Aslam Khan had said, “We are investigating the matter from all angles. We are not ruling out the role of the school authority or any family member or neighbour.”
The police had claimed that the girl was “touched” inappropriately. Last week it said that medical examination of the minor had confirmed sexual assault. However, no arrests have been made as of yet.
The family alleged that when the girl came back home from school on Sep-tember 4, her private parts were bleeding. They took her to a doctor, who suspected sexual assault. Following this, the family reported the matter to the police. The minor’s father alleged that the police did not register an FIR within 24 hours of their complaint.and that they were even threatened.
