New Delhi: Delhi government will install digital monitors in cabs to keep a track of the route taken by the driver. The step is being taken in a bid to enhance the safety of passengers, especially women.

At present, many cabs have mobile phones with GPS navigators fitted on their dashboards through which the drivers check routes. However, the passengers are unable to follow the navigation map. The government plans to install digital monitors on the backside of the head rests through which passengers can follow the route.

The safety measure is a part of ‘City Taxi Scheme, 2017’, which will be a regulatory framework for cab services in the city, and is likely to be put in public domain soon, a transport department’ senior official said.

“This is one of many safety measures that have been included in the city taxi scheme, “ he said. They will also have  a panic button to passengers in distress.

Meanwhile, the government is planning to ban sharing of cabs and CM Kejriwal had recently said cab sharing was a bad idea for  women.
