Delhi Police bust gang of thieves, 2 arrested

New Delhi: The Delhi police has busted a gang of thieves at New Delhi railway station and arrested two woman thieves, who had robbed a US-based NRI. 

The women were arrested in the Minto Bridge area. According to the police, the two accused, who are cousins and are aged 30 years and 25 years, carry their babies along with them in a bid to avoid suspicion. 

According to the police, the duo stole the NRI’s small bag, kept inside his backpack, which contained his passport, US green card, a credit card, US social security card, $5,000 and around `60,000 in cash and other cards.

On September 8, one Balji Bagda, who had come to India from the US complained to the police that his bag was stolen at the New Delhi railway station. He alleged he was getting down from the foot over bridge towards the waiting hall when someone stole his small bag. 

A case was lodged and a probe was initiated. After scanning the CCTV footage, the police arrested the woman thieves on September 8 near Minto Bridge. 

The police seized the bag with the stolen documents, $2379, and `10,000 in cash from their possession, Kumar Gyan-esh, DCP (railways) said. The older of the two cousins was previously arrested in another case of theft. The accused said they started robbing to earn easy money to meet their their daily expenses.
