North MCD scraps all new taxes in its proposed Budget

New Delhi: The North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) on Saturday, scrapped all the new taxes, such as betterment and professional tax and increase in property tax.

Presenting the Budget for the next financial year, Leader of House Jayendra Dabas announced several sops, including making of layout plans on the basis of the Lal Dora area of villages.

The betterment and professional tax and increase in property tax were proposed by the municipal commissioner in his Budget speech. Eyeing the possible bypolls in 20 Assembly constituencies, after the disqualification of AAP MLAs for occupying office of profit, Mr Dabas’ Budget gave special attention to the development of civic infrastructure in rural areas of the national capital.

Mr Dabas proposed making of layout plans on the basis of Lal Dora area of villages and clarifying streets, pond, gram sabha land, chaupal, and others.

On the subject of strengthening parking facilities in the area, Mr Dabas announced that multilevel parking will be developed at Madipur, Udyog Nagar, Punjabi Bagh, Nangloi, and Mundka Metro stations on the land provided by the Delhi Metro. “Parking with capacity of 722 cars in Rajendra Nagar; 600 cars in Sant Nagar; 522 cars in Karol Bagh’s Shastri Park; and 3,324 cars in Idgah will be developed,” he said.

Mr Dabas announced door-to-door garbage collection and its transportation to landfill sites in all six zones of NDMC. Currently, this facility is available in three zones.

“Night sweeping will be introduced in markets from April 1. A waste-to-energy plant would be developed at Bhalswa, which would process 1,500 metric tonne garbage into 15 megawatt of electricity daily. A bio-methane plant will be developed with 600 MT wet waste and 85 MT compost will be processed daily,” added Mr Dabas.
