135 shops sealed in South Delhi market

New Delhi: In a massive action against unauthorised construction on Wednesday, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) sealed basement and upper floors in 135 shops out of 153 in the Meharchand Market under Central Zone.

According to a senior SDMC official, Wednesday’s sealing action was taken as per the directions of the Supreme Court appointed monitoring committee.

“The members of the Committee were also present at the site of action. The members inspected the shops in the market and thereafter asked the officers of the building department of the Central Zone, SDMC, to take immediate sealing action against unauthorised constructions in basement and upper floors in 135 shops out of 153 in the market,” he said.

Police force in adequate number also remained present.

The unauthorised constructions at basement and upper floors in 135 shops were sealed in the action, however the ground floor was spared.

The market is situated at Lodi Colony.  The two banks- SBI and Dena Bank were given few days to wind up their operation.
