New Delhi: In order to curb open drinking near liquor outlets, the Delhi government has directed liquor vendors to deploy an adequate number of guards there. The Excise department has directed liquor vendors that if any person is found consuming liquor around the outlets, they should immediately contact the local police station.
The department, in written directions, has also asked these establishments to install CCTV cameras that can capture footage within 50 metres. The directio-ns were issued by J.P. Singh, assistant commi-ssioner (Excise) after a review.
Liquor vendors will exhibit prominently that consumption of liquor in a public place is punishable with fine and/or imprisonment as provided under Rule 65 of the Delhi Excise Rules, 2010, according to the department’s directions.
“If any person is found consuming liquor around the vicinity of liquor shops, then they should immediately contact the concerned police station or inform to Control Room of Excise departme-nt. Wherever required, an adequate number of guards must be deployed at near the shop,” Mr Singh said in the order.
