Quake felt in Delhi-NCR, no casualties reported

At many places, people rushed out of homes, offices and other work places in panic.

Tremors were also felt in Himachal, triggering panic among the people. However, no loss of life or damage to property was reported.

New Delhi: Tremors were felt in Delhi-NCR on Wednes-day afternoon after an earthquake of magnitude 6.2 hit Afghanistan-Tajikistan-Pakistan region.

No loss of life or damage to property was reported in the national capital.

While many people said that they did not feel the tremors on Wed-nesday, others reported that the top floors of high-rise buildings, especially in Gurgaon and Delhi, shook for a few seconds as the trem-ors hit.

Nupur Sharma, a law-yer and BJP spokesperson, said that the earthquake “shook the high court building” in Central Delhi. Tremors were also felt in Himachal, triggering panic among the people. However, no loss of life or damage to property was reported.

The quake was felt ar-ound 4:15 pm on Wedn-esday, a MeT department official said. Tremors were also felt in Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of north India in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh too.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occured near Afghanistan’s border with Tajikistan in the Hindu Kush mountains, 36 km north-west of Ishkashim and at a depth of 111.9 km. It was the second earthquake to shake Afghanistan today.
