New Delhi: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) to inform it about action taken on a plea alleging illegal commercial activity in and around R.K. Puram.

The green panel was hearing a plea filed by Khushi Sewa Sanstha seeking action against unauthorised commercial activity in R.K. Puram and on the drains as it was resulting in different forms of pollution.

The plea had alleged that despite several complaints, no action was taken by the authorities concerned, resulting in the degradation of the environment.

A bench headed by Justice Raghuvendra S Rathore asked the SDMC to file an additional affidavit of the officer concerned with regard to the issue. “The counsel representing SDMC is directed to file additional affidavit of the officer concerned with regard to the allegations made by the applicant and no steps are being taken by the corporation in this regard,” said the bench.

“According to the applicant, such activity is resulting in blocking of the flow of water and is causing different kind of pollution. The respondent corporation is directed to furnish advance copy of the same to the counsel for the applicant,” the bench said while posting the matter for hearing on May 2.
