Delhi police bust arms racket, 31 pistols recovered

New Delhi: The Delhi police special cell has busted an interstate illegal arms manufacturing and supplying racket. With the arrest of two illegal arm suppliers, said the police on Friday.

The accused were later identified as Mohd. Azam Saifi(52), and Akbar(28), both residents of Meerut, U.P.

According to the Delhi police, a huge cache of firearms, 31 country made pistols one of which was loaded with live cartridge of .315 bore and manufacturing tools used in manufacturing illegal weapons have been recovered from their possession.

The special cell on Tuesday received specific information about the whereabouts of the accused who were running illegal arms syndicate.

The accused were on their way to national capital for supplying huge consignment of arms and ammunition.

Acting upon the information, the team laid a trap at the expected spots of their arrival and around 01:15 PM, a person was spotted riding a motorcycle and carrying a black colour bag pack. After alighting from his motorcycle, he started waiting for someone. After about 10 minutes when he was about to move police team swooped in to nab him. On finding himself cornered, accused whipped out his pistol and threatened to open fire. The police staff rushed towards him and scuffle ensued.

During scuffle one of the police personnel snatched loaded pistol from his hand and overpowered him. He revealed his identity as Akbar. His search led to recovery of one illegal pistol loaded with one live cartridges of .315 bore. From bag pack 24 pistols wrapped in cloth sheets were recovered.

During interrogation Akbar disclosed that one of their Delhi contacts Akram was supposed to come at the spot to receive the delivery of consignment. During sustained interrogation, he disclosed that he has been involved in this illegal arms supplying for last about five years.

On the instance of Akbar, Mohd Azam was arrested and six country made pistols alongwith manufacturing implements like drilling machine, hammer, screw drivers, saw etc have also been recovered from his house, said the police.
