New Delhi: The development work in all unauthorised colonies in Delhi will start on a war-footing within the next 10-15 days, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Saturday.

Accusing the lieutenant-governor (L-G) of interfering in the development work, the chief minister said that after the Supreme Court verdict, all budget required for the work in these colonies, especially of roads and drains, would be sanctioned within 15 days.

He also accused the  lieutenant-governor and the Centre of “interpreting” the Supreme Court order as per their “whims” and disregarding the apex court’s verdict.

“They (Centre and L-G) are saying the last part of the Supreme Court order says that matters will now go to the regular bench and the issue regarding the services department will be decided by that bench. This is a weird interpretation of the order. They are agreeing to some part of the order but not to the other. This is wrong and a disregard of the apex court order,” he said.

Mr Kejriwal, on Saturday, inspected development works in the Kirari Assembly and took stock of the developmental works being carried out in the unauthorised colonies in the area.

The chief minister also warned officials of suspension after locals complained of the shoddy work and the sub-standard material being used, especially bricks. He also ordered the bricks to be sent for quality test.

The chief minister was accompanied by the local MLA, Rituraj Jha, and officials of the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Develo-pment Corporation (DSIIDC).

 Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Develo-pment Corporation is the agency executing the work in the area where the chief minister visited.

“People live in hellish conditions in unauth colonies. To give them dignity better life, funds will be sanctioned for roads and drains in next 15 days for ALL unauth colonies in Del. Work will start on war footing and daily progress will be monitored (sic),” he wrote on Twitter.
