New Delhi: The alleged occult practitioner, who was detained by the Delhi police crime branch for questioning on Friday following a sting operation, has allegedly told the police that she had “inspired” the 11 Chudawat family members to end their lives to attain salvation.

The woman, Geeta Maa, told the cops that she had asked Lalit, who is allegedly possessed by his father’s spirit,  to conduct the rituals at the house to ward off evil spirits.

Later, she  backtracked from what she had told the police. She claimed that she had no allegiance to the Chudawat family who died in a mysterious way. Geeta Maa said she has not even met the family once.

The woman’s father used to work as a contractor at Lalit’s house, which being renovated.

Deputy commissioner of police  (crime branch) Joy Tirkey said, “There is nothing to suggest that the 35-year-old woman was in anyway connected to deaths of 11 members of the family. She was not in touch with the family. She even said that she never met Lalit or any of their family members.”

The woman’s father alleged that his daughter was tricked by the media to talk to them.

“She prays a lot and people with ailments often visit her for succour. She touches them and some of them have found relief. She also sings kirtans at a nearby temple. The woman is certainly not a tantrik,” said the woman’s father.
