New delhi, Hyderabad: An online cheating gang from Delhi, which trapped techies and engineering students on Olx.in by posting pictures of iPhones and giving boxes packed with stones, was arrested.

The police said the gang used fake addresses in Hyderabad to contact customers, and after collecting money, they flew to Bengaluru and New Delhi and hid there. The arrested suspects are Mohammad Nazim, Mohammed Irfan and Mohammad Sajauddin. Other members of the gang named Ashraf, Saleem and Raheemuddin are absconding.

LB Nagar DCP Tafseer Iqbal said the suspects belonged to Delhi. Before shifting to Hyderabad in January 2016, Nazim, Irfan and Ashraf were engaged in the scrap business in Delhi and also used to sell winter jackets in the Karol Bagh area. There they found duplicate China made Iphones.

Using this, they cheated people on Olx.in. After testing their luck in Delhi, they shifted focus to Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

They took shelter at the residence of Sajauddin and Saleem, who were running an Ayurvedic medicine centre named ‘Baba Jaffar Shah. With the help of Raheemuddin, they procured fake voter identity cards, Pan Cards and a DL and also purchased a bike. “They posted the picture of an original iPhones on Olx and once a deal is done, they chose a convenient place to hand over the phone and collect cash so that they can cheat by diverting the customer’s attention and give him a China-made piece, or a box packed with stones or glass pieces and escape,” the DCP said.
